My chain slipped off on the way to work. I’d been pulling a hill, and probably put too much pressure on the pedals in the middle of shifting. I put the chain back on, using only my fingertips, then tried not to touch anything.
At work, I washed my hands three times, but still had dirt in the ridges of my winter-dry callouses. Not so professional a look.
I am packing a pair of surgical gloves in my gear in case such an occasion should soon arise. Long term, I want a more sustainable solution. I will put some handyman type soap in a light little jar. The kind that smells of citrus and feels gritty. Mechanics use it. I will place this in my pack inside a baggy. Pack a rag in there, too. A little clean-up kit.
I welcome other suggestions!
